Fisher Scientific Appoints Thomas G. Pitera to Head U.S. Distribution

HAMPTON, N.H., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thomas G. Pitera, former President of the Industrial Electronics Division of Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PIOS), has been appointed President of United States Distribution Operations of Fisher Scientific International Inc. (NYSE: FSH).

The new group is Fisher's largest and includes all operating companies of the scientific research business, including domestic distribution and sales of hundreds of thousands of scientific instruments, services and supplies to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and industrial companies, academic and government research centers, environmental and quality-control laboratories, schools, colleges and other customers. The unit is based in Pittsburgh, where Fisher Scientific was founded 100 years ago.

"Tom Pitera brings to Fisher Scientific a 25-year record of achievement in managing distribution, sales and marketing at leading corporations," Chairman and CEO Paul M. Montrone said. "His role will combine his logistical expertise with an increased emphasis on creative marketing and new sales initiatives."

Mr. Pitera joined Pioneer-Standard in 1989 as Director of Marketing, Semiconductor Products, and advanced to Regional Vice President and later Vice President, North American Sales, before advancing to his most recent position. Earlier in his career, he served as Worldwide Director of Distribution Sales and Marketing of General Electric Company's Semiconductor Division and held various management positions at Texas Instruments. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1977.
