Executive Biographies

Biography PhotoMarc  N. Casper
President and Chief Executive Officer

Marc joined the company in December 2001 as President of the Life and Laboratory Sciences sector. He was named Senior Vice President in December 2003, and in March 2005 was given responsibility for all of the company’s operating divisions. In 2006, Marc was named President of Analytical Technologies for Thermo Fisher Scientific. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer in May 2008, and in October 2009, became the company’s President and CEO.
Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, Marc served as President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Kendro Laboratory Products. Before Kendro, he was President – Americas for Dade Behring Inc. He served as Executive Vice President for Europe, Asia and intercontinental for two years before that. Marc began his career at Bain & Company as a strategy consultant and later joined Bain Capital.
Marc received an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School and is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. Marc serves on the board of Zimmer Holdings.

Biography PhotoPeter M. Wilver
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Pete joined the company in October 2000 as Vice President of Financial Operations, with responsibility for integrating the company’s financial operations and systems, establishing a monthly financial analysis and reporting process and improving the efficiency of the company’s financial reporting systems. He was named Chief Financial Officer of the company in October 2004.
Before joining Thermo Fisher Scientific, Pete worked for General Electric and Grimes Aerospace Company. He began his career at Honeywell International (formerly Allied Signal), where he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Electronic Materials Division.
Pete is a summa cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting. He is a certified public accountant (CPA). Pete serves on the board of CIRCOR International, Inc.

Biography PhotoKen Berger
Senior Vice President and President, Specialty Diagnostics

Ken joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2001 as President of Real Time Analytics and became President of Materials and Minerals in October 2001. From April 2004 through July 2005, he was the first President of Thermo Fisher China, based in Shanghai. Ken served as President of Thermo Fisher’s Process Instruments business from July 2005 through April 2007 and as President of Biosciences from April 2007 until May 2010. He became President of Specialty Diagnostics and a Senior Vice President of the company on May 1, 2010.
Before joining Thermo Fisher Scientific, Ken worked in a series of sales, operating and general management leadership positions for GE, Dow Chemical and Allied Signal.
Ken holds a degree in macromolecular science from Case Western Reserve University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.

Biography PhotoGregory J. Herrema
Senior Vice President and President, Analytical Instruments

Greg joined the company in January 2002 as President of Environmental Instruments. He was named President of Scientific Instruments in May 2006. In May 2008, he was promoted to President of Analytical Instruments and became a Senior Vice President of the company. Analytical Instruments includes the company’s Environmental Instruments, Process Instruments and Scientific Instruments businesses.
Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, Greg served for 14 years at General Electric, including two years at Borg Warner Chemicals (acquired by GE Plastics). While at GE, his career progressed through multiple sales, marketing and general management roles within the Plastics and Transportation Systems divisions.
Greg holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Greg serves as Chairman of the Analytical and Life Science Systems Association.

Biography PhotoAlan  J.  Malus
Senior Vice President and President, Laboratory Products

Alan joined Fisher Scientific in 1998 and served in a variety of management roles, including Vice President of Finance for United States distribution operations, President of Cole-Parmer and group President of distribution and services for Fisher. Alan also managed the Fisher Lab Equipment, Eutech and Barnant businesses. In addition, he was President of the Fisher Scientific/Apogent Technologies integration and successfully merged the $1.1 billion business into Fisher. In 2006, Alan became President of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Customer Channels business and a Senior Vice President of the company. In 2008, he was named President of Laboratory Products. Alan is also responsible for the Biosciences business that supports our bioresearch and bioproduction customers.
Earlier in his career, Alan held senior management positions in finance, sales, marketing and business development at Textron, Inc. He began his career at Ford Motor Company and spent eight years at Chrysler Corporation.
Alan holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Biography PhotoEdward A. Pesicka
Senior Vice President and President, Customer Channels

Ed joined the company in 2000 as Vice President, Controller, of Fisher Scientific’s U.S. research business. He also served as Vice President and General Manager of the U.S. research business and Vice President of Finance for U.S. Distribution Operations. In 2006, Ed was named president of Thermo Fisher’s Research Market business. In July 2008, he was named President of Customer Channels and became a Senior Vice President of the company.
Prior to joining the company, Ed served in several positions at TRW, Inc. from 1992 to 2000, including Director of Finance & IT, TRW Nelson Stud Welding Division; Manager of Finance, Occupant Restraint Systems Group; Supervisor of Consolidation and Reporting; and international internal auditor. Ed began his career as an accountant for Coopers & Lybrand in Columbus, Ohio.
Ed holds a bachelor’s degree from Muskingum College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He is also a certified public accountant.
